The
Cruisers Club . . . From Possibility to Reality
by Brenda Cauthen
There is a moment
in time when desire meets ambition, and from this
relationship is born
a possibility. A possibility, taught by dedication,
guided by loyalty, nurtured by determination, and raised by hard work, this possibility matures to become
a reality. A reality that has become known
as The Cruisers Club of Cedar Hill, Texas. You may
ask what makes us so special. . . just what sets us apart from any other club? Well, maybe nothing at
all, but to a lot of folks there are probably many
different reasons why we are. It is good ole slice of Americana for one reason. We are a club where God is still God for those who believe, where family matters, and new found friendships occur often. It is where yesterday's
memories are wrapped in today's plans and topped with tomorrow's hopes. It is folks from all walks of life with
diverse ideals meeting on common ground to share the love of their hobbies.
We are a democratic
group, where one's ideas, opinions or concerns can
be expressed freely. It is a place where, when deemed necessary, reasonable and
justifieable, folks will reach deep down into their hearts and pockets to help with a charitable event. This seems to be when our light shines the brightest. We all have the ability and the power to make a difference to those
in need. We have all helped to share some of our blessings,
our support and
sometimes when necessary,
our hard work to others. Special, yes & we believe
this to be true. Different & we truly hope so! Our
beginnings & well, it can only be said that words definitely have power and that a single thought can and sometimes will, develop into an act of unstoppable actions. You can be sure if these two things are mixed and expressed out loud, that someone will take them to heart and run with the ball. And run they did !
In the beginning there were 6. George Bowden, Jerry Morris, John
Rountree, Larry Garcia, Jimmy Cauthen and
Brenda Cauthen. This little
handful of hot rodders
would meet at the Cauthen's home and caravan to
various shows in the
area. One afternoon while sitting at a local car show, Brenda jokingly said "Hey!, Why don't we start our own car club!" And BOOM!! the movement began! It was 2001. George took the ball and ran with it. They were making up names, etc. and the next thing they knew, they had a name that Jerry Morris came up with and some tee shirts Goerge got someplace and they started
showing up as The Cruisers Club everywhere they went.
George was our president, Jerry was Vice President,
John was Public Relations. Soon we were joined by
our first official new members, Jan and Joe Jemelka. Jan soon became the Treasurer. This little group of friends has continued to grow by leaps and bounds. We now have over 100 members and have not only a President, Vice President, Public Relations Officer, and Treasurer, but a Secretary, a Chaplain and a Historian. And, as they say, the rest is
history & Or shall we say The Future!
